Celebrating International Jazz Day

The Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO and the Lithuanian Jazz Union invite you to the now-traditional “Jazz Lunch”, which this year is co-organised with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark.
This time the musical celebration will bring together three memorable occasions: International Jazz Day, the 35th anniversary of Lithuania joining UNESCO, and 35 years of Lithuanian–Danish cooperation.
The “Jazz Lunch” will take place on Thursday 30 April, from 12:00 to 13:00, at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania (3rd-floor atrium, by the stained-glass window).
The programme features a Lithuanian–Danish jazz duo: pianist and vocalist Fini Broadbery (Denmark) and saxophonist Donatas Petreikis (Lithuania).
The “Jazz Lunch” is part of the “Year with Denmark” events programme.
The event is open to all and free of charge.

More about the performers:
Fini Broadbery is known as a jazz pianist, but he began his musical journey as a singer in the Copenhagen Boys’ Choir. In this concert he will combine both forms of expression, appearing as both pianist and vocalist.
This talented artist interprets both well-known and less frequently heard songs from The Great American Songbook. His performances clearly show a deep love for the jazz tradition and its history, yet the music itself is neither overly solemn nor focused solely on the past. He favours a deep sound, avoids clichés and interprets familiar pieces through his own personal experience.
Donatas Petreikis is a prominent saxophonist of the young jazz generation. Since completing his studies, he has been successfully building an international career: living between Lithuania and Estonia and maintaining close ties with the Danish jazz scene, he writes music and records albums with such greats of that country as Anders Mogensen and Carl Winther.
This year Donatas’s album was nominated in the Jazz Artist of the Year category at the M.A.M.A. music awards. In Lithuania, Donatas can be seen not only with his own quartet but also performing with the band of Estonian pianist Rahel Talts, with whom he has played not only in European clubs but also in Asia. He is also one of the founders of the Collaborative Jazz Septet (together with fellow saxophonist Karolis Šarkus).
